symptoms of acid reflux can be caused by what you eat
There are quite a number of symptoms of acid reflux, and if left un-managed, acid reflux can cause other health problems too. So watch out for heartburn, or in other words, a burning sensation that appears to start in your stomach, but then travels up from your stomach to your chest and throat. This is more likely to happen when you have just eaten a large meal, or when you bend over, when you try to lift something and contract your stomach muscles, or when your are lying down, and in particular, when you are lying down on your back. Many, many people suffer from acid reflux, especially at night time when the discomfort and pain can often stop people from sleeping. People with this pain report high levels of pain.
Now some people do regurgitate the stomach acid, or in other words, the food and acid pass up the esophagus and into the mouth, and sometimes even vomit it out of the mouth. In babies with acid reflux, this happens very easily, and the vomit can actually travel quite a distance, far from pleasant, but it happens.

For some people, they get a feeling as though some of the food they have just eaten is stuck somewhere behind the breastbone, others have trouble swallowing, and some develop dry coughs, which are caused by the irritation of the esophagus. This often occurs more at night time, and again can stop sleep from happening. Acid reflux can also cause hiccups, or a sore throat as a result of the acid reaching the back of the throat.
So taken as a whole, the symptoms of acid reflux are unpleasant and painful, but there are some things you can do to relieve this. One thing is to watch which foods seem to cause you the most problem, and then eliminate them from your diet. Another is to take the medication prescribed by your doctor – you have seen your doctor right? Or you can eat some foods which will lessen the acid in your stomach – more on this in another post.
If you suffer a great deal with acid reflux at night time, then you might want to invest in an acid reflux wedge pillow. They work very well for most people, and are good to have around anyway for witting reading in bed, or raising your legs when they ache.
Or you can change the combination of foods that you eat. For example, by just eating fruit by itself, your body doesn’t have to worry about producing different digestive enzymes like it does when you eat proteins in the form of beef or chicken with fruits at the same meal.
I am still combining my foods, and I do not need to take any of the ant acid pills prescribed for me. My stomach problems have cleared up so much, and this is when I only watch what I eat for 2 meals a day.
But you need to do your research and decide if it will help you. I am so glad I did, because now I don’t have to take prescription drugs for acid reflux any more, thank goodness.
